Change Your Snapchat Display Name

The first is a clever method for changing your username to a unique Display Name. Your username doesn’t change, but your friends hardly ever see it.

Here’s how to do it.

1. Open Snapchat and select your profile/Bitmoji icon in the upper-left corner of the screen.

2. Select the gear icon in the upper-right corner to go to your Settings.

3. Select Name.

4. Enter a new display name in the Name box.

5. Tap Save.

Instead of your username, the name you save in the Name field appears in the chats and stories of your friends.

Only when a friend views your profile in a chat, which displays your snapcode, name, username, snap score, and Snapchat emojis, or when they choose your Display Name when searching for friends, might they see your username.

Make a New Snapchat Account and Username

Making a brand-new Snapchat account is another way to modify your username. You will manually add your friends to your new account if you select this option. Here’s how to save the Snapchat handles of your friends before making a new account.

Your current snapcode, snap score, snap streaks, best friends, conversations, and any awards you have earned are all lost if you open a new Snapchat account.

1. Select Chat and choose the New Chat icon in the upper-right corner.

2. Scroll to All to view your friends in alphabetical order. Write down each name or take a screenshot of the list. Select the X in the upper-right corner to cancel the New Chat.

3. Search for the first friend in your list by typing their name in the search field at the top of the screen.

4. Write down the username that appears under their Display Name. Repeat #4 to find all of your friends’ usernames.

5. Select the X in the search bar to exit the search. Select your profile/Bitmoji icon and then choose the gear icon in the upper-right corner to access Settings.

6. Select Log Out at the bottom of the Settings list, and confirm that you want to log out of your account.

7. Select Sign Up to create a new account with your new username.

8. After you complete the account setup process for your new account, select the magnifying glass icon to search for your friends’ usernames. Select Add to add them.

If your friends are already on your device’s contact list, you can also quickly add them all at once by syncing your contacts with your account.
